harder, better, faster, stronger

Those of you who foliow me on Twitter or Instagram may have noticed some changes in my lifestyle lately, and with my first half a stone of weight lost (yay!), I feel ready to share my health and fitness journey with my blog, knowing it's not just another of my fad diets that last a week. At the start of June something hit me, and one night at about 2am, when I couldn't sleep, I sent an email off to a personal trainer, downloaded MyFitnessPal on my iPhone and wrote a healthy meal plan and shopping list for the coming week. Fast forward to today and I'm 8lbs lighter, my skin is clearer, I've got more energy and I feel amazing.

After some almost fortnightly sessions with my personal trainer (who is due back from maternity leave soon, and I'm looking forward to more frequent sessions!) I feel confident in the gym, I know what I'm supposed to be doing and I see and feel it making a difference. I've been to the gym a lot previously and never had a routine or put thought into which exercises I was doing, however now that I have my PT to help me I'm feeling much more motivated and dare I say it... enjoying the gym!

Foodwise, I've been writing a meal plan at the start of the week, and shopping only for whats on my list. It saves money, and most importantly it keeps me organised. If I don't take lunch to work I know I'll order chips and curry from the canteen! I log absolutely everything in MyFitnessPal (even that 1000 calories I drank in cocktails and shots last Monday - oops!) and have started tracking my carb, protein and fat intake.

This is just the start of my journey, I have a lot of goals in my mind - none of which revolve around a scale. I'll keep some of my longer term goals to myself just now, but my aim for the rest of this year is to cut down on body fat and tone up my wobbly bits! I don't mind what number is on the scale, I'll be happy as long as I'm losing and can see progress.

I'm not going to be one of those bloggers who update you weekly on their losses, but I will be posting lots more healthy recipes and maybe some tips and tricks that have worked for me, if you're interested?

  2. Congratulations on the 7lb loss! I'd definitely be interested in your recipes; I really need to jump back onto healthy eating after I weighed myself yesterday and was pretty horrified with what I saw! I'm such a rubbish cook though I always end up eating chips :/ xo

    1. Thank you! I'm not a great cook too, at least I never try anything too complex so most of my recipes will be pretty simple and most likely made in under 30 minutes, haha!

  3. Well done on your loss so far! :) Your food on instagram always looks so good! I use myfitnesspal too - it's amazing - and also love the gym! Once I'm there that is, such a 'mare getting up at 5:30am for it!
Keep up the good work :) xx

    1. Ahh, thank you! My meals are usually a bit random, but it all tastes good! ;)

I started going to the gym before work this week, and you're right about getting up earlier than you need to - it's awful! I'm sure you'll agree that nothing beats how good you feel after a workout though. x

  4. Massive congrats on your progress so far! I'm so terrible at sticking to my health kicks but determined to get back on a big'un, only issue being that very soon I'm going to be a very skint student and am pretty worried about eating healthily on a budget! Would love to see some recipes, your posts on Instagram are always enough to induce some cravings!xx

    1. Thank you! :)

I always eat on a budget too - my weekly shops usually never come over £30 and that's including a LOT of fresh fruit and veg. Maybe I'll make a post about what my weekly shopping list looks like. It's actually a lot cheaper now that I'm eating healthy when people assume eating healthy is usually more expensive!

  5. Congratulations on your weight loss so far, it's nice to see someone loosing weight for themselves as opposed to other people. I would definitely be interested in seeing some healthy recipes, I just posted a pretty tasty and healthy breakfast recipe over on my blog today!

    1. Thank you! I think you can only really be determined to lose weight if you're doing it for yourself. If you're only doing it for someone else then where's the motivation?

  13. This is fantastic! I've recently started my own journey and after 2 weeks I'm 5lbs lighter. Being a bigger girl some of my goals do revolve around the scale but I'm refraining from becoming obsessed with that number - I threw out my scales and now go elsewhere to get weighed just once a week.
It's so great what a difference it makes to how you feel!

After I went travelling, I came home and having a fridge containing my favourite food and a sister who dragged me out to lunch every weekend, I put on a bit of weight after shifting some of it, I'm already feeling so much better but would love to know any healthy recipes etc you have as I'm off to uni in september and would love to be prepared and maintain my healthy lifestyle.
