6 in 1 beauty to go

I recently won one of the new 6 in 1 Beauty To Go sets from ELF in a Facebook competition. I've used ELF products before and the quality has been a bit hit and miss so I wasn't sure what to expect. The first thing that struck me was how brilliant value for money the set is. For just £10 you're getting 60 eyeshadows, 12 lip colours, 4 blushers, 2 bronzers and one compact to use when you're on the go.

I really like the idea of having a compact with the choice of 6 different palettes to fit inside. It would be handy for keeping in your bag, and the compact is really sturdy which saves me having to worry about my eyeshadows breaking when I'm travelling. For the remaining 5 palettes which aren't in your compact, there's no sort of lid for protection so you do have to keep them in the original box to avoid breakages which is a pain as I know a lot of us like to store our make up in little drawers etc. A basic clear plastic lid for each would have been much better I think!

The eyeshadows are fairly good quality, for the price. They're not massively pigmented but they're nice and soft and the colour can easily be built up. There's a nice range of colours to experiment with too, although I'll most likely stay within my comfort zone with the browns, golds and silvers. On their own they don't have a huge amount of staying power but with a primer they'll last most of the day.

I was already a fan of ELF blushers, and was happy to receive 4 new colours. They're all very pigmented and have great staying power. There's a lovely peachy colour with shimmer which looks similar to NARs Orgasm, only not quite as shimmery.

Bronzers aren't a product I use often so I wouldn't know how to rate these. Like the blushers, they are quite pigmented. They don't seem to compliment my pale skin much though, so I probably won't use them. The lip colours are very waxy and show up any dry skin on your lips and the colours don't have much coverage or pigmentation so I'll stick to my lipsticks.

Overall I think this is a good product for those who are looking to experiment with their make up and don't want to splash out on expensive products. There are lots of different looks you could create from this (I chose a natural look with coral blusher and neutral eyeshadows but can't wait to try a smokey eye with my usual red lips!) and it's a good way to find out what colours suit you.

Are you a fan of ELF products? Which ones would you recommend?

  2. I got the 3 in 1 product & definitely agree, more lids would have been handy! I've only used the eyeshadows & blushers which I liked, I usually like some of the ELF lipsticks but the lipcolours in these palettes weren't too great :/

    xoxo.

    1. I've never tried lipsticks from ELF but wasn't impressed with these at all. It just felt like coating my lips with waxy and the colours weren't what they looked like in the palette, were they? x

  4. Oh well done on winning, it's a great idea + very handy! I'm a little undecided with ELF, they're a little hit + miss in my books. They're great if you want to pick up some cheaper make up but I don't think any of their products are in my top favourites xo

    1. I'm a bit undecided too but I think generally they're quite good for the money you pay for each product! I'd probably prefer to buy a higher end product though, just because they're better quality but I'm only just getting into eyeshadows so this is good for me just now! x

  5. Ooh some of it actually looks pretty good and I like the idea of being able to slip a palette in the compact to carry around-my problem is that with big palettes like that with the lipstick squares etc always remind me of ones I used to have when I first started liking makeup at age 11! haha x

    1. Hahaha, that's exactly what I thought when I saw them! To be honest the lip colours are just like the ones you got in those kids sets! The rest of it is pretty good though! x

  6. It sounds quite stupid that you have no lid for the other 5 palettes you don't use at the moment ! I've been ordering ELF products and I've been LOVING their Therapeutic Conditioning Lip Balm (in blueberry crème) I used it every nights before bed until I ran out. I quite like their blushes (the ones in the black containers, not the transparent ones I think they are crap!) and I havent been much impressed by their all over colour sticks. Not I havent tried that one many times so maybe I need to get used to it ! I've got a few lip glosses that I havent had the chance to try out yet ! Hope this was helpful =)

    1. Yeah, it is a bit odd! I haven't tried the lip balms but that one sounds lovely! Their studio range is much better than the cheaper one that comes with the clear packaging, I agree! x

  8. I was a fan of ELF until I found out their brushes are made from animal fibres http://www.forevertheuglyduckling.com/2011/07/elf-150-line-of-make-up-brushes-made.html Not cool! Especially since they refuse to state on the website which brushes are synthetic and which arent. xo

    1. I'd definitely recommend it. Obviously not quite as good as higher end products but it's good for £10 and it'll be great for experimenting with new looks :) x

  11. I never wear blusher (I've always been a bronzer girl) until I discovered ELF's cream blush shimmer stick in Persimmon. Now I actually look like I have cheekbones (I don't). x

  12. I just recently started using ELF and enjoy their products as well. I wouldn't say they are my favorite but given the price, they are really good. Unfortunately I had a horrible order experience my first time using their online site (took over 2 weeks to even SHIP!) so I refuse to go through that again but I have purchased a few things from a local store. My favorite things include their tools mostly (cuticle pen, pencil sharpener, brush cleaners, etc) because I think a lot of companies over charge you for the same exact thing! I also like their eyeliners as well! Your post has me thinking about trying some more items though! Thanks for sharing :)

  13. As if that's only a tenner! I've only used a few elf products but I've heard their bronzers are actually ok so it might be worth just buying this whole set rather than just the one bronzer.
