nail polish collection

(let me know if you want to know details of any specific colours - i was too lazy to list them all!)

A few people have commented on my nail polish collection and asked me what brands I wear so whilst clearing out all of the ones that have dried out I thought I'd take some photos and show you. I own about 50-60 nail polishes in total - these aren't all of them (a few of my favourites are missing!) because I'm forever finding them at the bottom of bags and in my locker at work. My sister also owns about as many nail polishes as me too!

I usually go for Barry M nail polishes but they are forever going all thick and gloopy and the quality just isn't good enough so I'm thinking of 'switching' to mainly buying Models Own who offer a better selection of colours for not much difference in price. As you can tell, I also have quite a few duplicates - usually because the first bottle is starting to deteriorate in quality and I want to have a back up!

Seeing it all laid out like this, it makes me realise that I have so many colours that I haven't worn more than once or twice. I definitely have a small selection of favourites! What is your nail polish collection like? Do you have a favourite brand or are you a bit like me and have a random mish mash?

I somehow managed to break every single one of my nails (!!!) on Saturday night so I'm going to have to give my nails a bit of a break from nail polish until they grow back. :(

  1. What a fantastic collection! You know you're into nail polishes when you see a post like this and can name a few shades...

  2. do you find that your polishes dry out very pften? i was wondering why mine went so gloopy so soon, and then the other day went to get the box down from on top of the bathroom cabinet and realised how warm it all gets due to my stupid spotlight which shines right on it.
i have moved them, and hopefully rescued them.

  3. Emma - brilliant! i feel a bit of a freak when a friend is wearing a colour and i say "ohhh is that *shade name*" and get it right! ;) x

Char - It's usually just cheap ones (the collection 2000 hot looks range) and barry m that dry out. I keep mine in a cool dark place and I've had ones that have literally lasted for years! I think it's the heat that damages them x

  4. Mmm I love all of these, I want them! I remember throwing ALL of mine out in a mad hissy fit a few years back seeing as I never wore them. Now I'm slowly building up a collection again - MORE MORE MORE!

I usually go for Barry M too, theyre so access accessible and cheap, but they chip so easily and they're not even that great - Agreed! Love Model Own, but twice the price, pah.

  5. Finally! At least next time my mum comes in my room and says 'ANOTHER nail polish. Really?!' I can say 'erm, mate, it's normal...' x

  6. What an amazing collection- love how you've laid them out like a rainbow! :) I find Barry M chips quite easily, I prefer Topshop which seems to last longer.xx

  7. I love the dark sparkly Models Own, what is it?!

  8. This is a great post! I love seeing other people's polish collections. Mine is much like yours with a variety of brands. I do seem to favor ESSIE and OPI. I wish they sold Models Own in the US. Ditto for Barry M. You have a great color variety and I can just tell you're an interesting nail person.

  9. Nice collection! My fav nail polish brands are probably Barry M (cheap, cheerful, wide range of colours - never had much of a problem with them really!) and OPI for when I want to splash out a bit (formulas are usually amazing, new collections come out all the time, the brush is so nice to apply with and I love the shape of the bottle!).

I do pick up a lot of randoms too, though I seem to be the only person left in the world who hasn't tried any Models Own polishes - for some reason I just never go to them. May have to take a second look! x

  10. Woah, nice collection! I have bugger all nail varnishes. I love all the mint and coral shades though (:

  11. Sarah - You threw them out?! OUCH. I find it so so difficult throwing out nail polishes, even ones that are awful quality or that I never use. I usually wait until Models Own have some sort of offer on before buying! x

Sam - My Mum is exactly the same whenever I buy a new nail polish, eeeek! I think someone needs to make a post like this which rivals my collection so that I can convince my own Mum that mines isn't that bad ;) x

Rachelous - Thank you! I haven't actually tried any of the Topshop polishes yet. What are your favourite colours from their range? x

Tat - The 4th one in the row of purples? It's called Purple Haze. If it's the 5th one in that row, it's Disco Mix. x

Alyse - Thanks :) The only Essie is own is the matte top coat but I do love their pastel colours. I think the thing that puts me off is that no where locally sells them so I'd have to order online. The same with OPI. I really love seeing the colours in person! x

Evelyn - Thank you! A few of my Barry M polishes are fine but most end up thick, gloopy and impossible to apply once I reach half way through the bottle. OPI are lovely. I've got the mini Alice in Wonderland collection and they're so nice to apply. I think you'd love Models Own! Most of them are opaque within 1 coat and apply really smoothly. x

Bee - Coral and Mint are my 2 favourite colours at the moment hehe. :) x

  13. This is such lovely collection of colours, I have thousands, but they all seem to be the same there shades, all reds/pinks, all extrmely dark almost black colours etc. I like the rainbow variety here :)
I tried models own the other day, i thought the consistancy looked awful in the package but it goes on great. Barry M used to pick off my nails an hour after application, although seems to be sticking more now. I really want to go buy more nail polish now haha! x

  14. Wow! I especially love your minty green/blue colours! I've recently tried essie and it is actually really good! Lasts longer than any other nail varnish I've tried so far however it is abit pricy :( would love to have a collection like yours!

  15. ahh so many colours! amazing! what's the barry m one, 1st in the reds? I think barry m is definitely my nail polish of choice, i find they're so chip resistant! havn't got half way through the bottles yet though (i work in a cafe and can only wear nail polish on my days off aha, its a killer!) so i'll need to see if they're still my fave then! x

  16. wow, I love all these colours. I am pretty boring and only own about six that I always wear. A black, letter box red, burgundy tend to be my winter colours. The Nude and Pastel blue, pink and yellow for summer.

  17. In love with your collection, you have such a variety of colours!!!
I've got over 20 Barry M polishes and I think they tend to go gloppy if you use them a lot, for example I'v had a grey polish of theres for years and its going gloppy because it is the one I have worn the most. You can get really cheap nail varnish thinners off ebay for about £3, this will hopefully restore your gloppy polishes, I ordered mine yesterday!!!

Would love if you could check out my recent post on nail and nail varnishes :)

  18. wow youve got loads!
i love these sort of posts :)
i like barry m but on some of the more paler colours i find that they take like three coats to show the colour and hide the nail underneath which then is too thick :/

i really like the pale yellow models own one youve got! ive never tried models own so i think i might go buy some :)

  19. Wow, what a collection! I like the colour coding :) x

  20. amazing collection! i think models own polishes are really good for the price, especially when boots have a 3 for 2 offer! x

  21. That's quite a collection!
I love the pastels and nudes, they're great colours for the summer xoxo

  22. That is actually an amazing collection! I felt quite chuffed with my 15, until I saw this haha! Oh, my nails are always breaking, definitley need to invest in some Sally Hansen!

  23. Lovely collection! I definately think you should try out some essie nail polishes, those are my favorite :)!

  24. Ooh there's a lot there, brilliant! xx

  25. Holy shit Charlene, that is a serious amount of nail polish! Haha I need to show this to my boyfriend to get him off my case! :p Really lovely collection though, I would have fun with it doing rainbow coloured nails hahaha :) xx

  26. Gem - I might try some Essie too now since so many people are recommending them. They're quite expensive though! I got really addicted at the start of the year and once bought 7 polishes in 2 days! I've calmed down a lot now though :) x

Peacock Lace - Thank you :) I feel as though mine are all the same but after looking back at the pictures I do have quite an assortment haha! Models own applies really well I find but if I apply too thick a coat it will just peel off like the Barry M does with you! It's strange… x

Harriet - All my greens are my favourite colours! I think I'm going to pick up a few Essie polishes come pay day - everyone's saying they're good! x

Laura Rose - The first red Barry M one is called Raspberry . Barry M are definitely chip resistant, it's just the gloopyness that puts me off! I don't know how I'd cope if my job didn't allow me to paint my nails! x

Jemma Louise - To be honest, I only wear about 6 of mine constantly. I go through phases though. Just now it's mint green and coral! I go for the same colours as you in the same seasons too. :) x

Chellsie - I used to have 1 of each Barry M colour but I've gradually got rid of them because of the gloopy problem. It's always the ones I use a lot that go gloopy first… strange! Let me know how you get on with the nail varnish thinner, I've been thinking of trying one of them! x

    Angela - Thank you! :) x

Elise - Yep, I always wait for a 3 for 2 offer or 25% off their website before buying MOdels Own. I love that most can be worn as just one coat too! x

RCagz - Pastels and nudes are my go-to colours at the moment! :) x

Shope - Aww haha! My nails constantly break too. I used to take a multivitamin which really helped but I keep forgetting and now my nails are in a bad way again. x

Deborah - Thank you! I'm definitely going to try some Essie come pay day :) x

Sirens and Bells - Yep, but I feel as though it's not enough! There's a whole list of colours I'd like to try hehe x

  27. haha i love that you have duplicates, I tend to buy 5 polishes all the same colour but different brands subconsciously! I hate barry m polishes me and them just don't mix well at all, the chip too easily and dont age well at all! Lovely collection though :) xxx

  28. I've finally mustered up the courage to comment on your blog, hahhaa.. I'm always very inspired by your nail polish posts & this one is no exception......i'm off to the store! lol

  29. wow i am impressed! i feel like i have a large collection, but mine in no way compares to yours. i always get worried that the nail polishes will dry out, since there is no way i can wear even the amount i have before some of them become too old to use.

  30. Ayden - Haha I wish I could show my Mum someone elses massive collection to get her off my case! I've never actually done rainbow nails but that's a good idea! ;) x

Adrienne - I've done that with the Mint Greens.. 3 of them are exactly the same shade almost! It seems like some nail polishes are great for some and rubbish for others… it's funny how that works! x

Bitsofwonderful - Aww don't be shy hehe! Thanks for your comment :) I'd love to see some of your nail art if you do some x

Rae - That's a good point.. I doubt I'd finish 1/4 of my collection before they all dried out. Kind of worrying! x

  31. amazing collection of polishes! I used to have a big collection and then one hot day, I left it my make up box in the porch and they all went gooey. :( xxx

  32. I love nail polish and wear it all the time. I can't get on with Barry M, I have got a Model's Own red that I haven't tried yet. I like ELF although they are a bit thin and need plenty of coats, I also like Jessica although I choose my colours really carefully as they are pricey. I love to pick a colour to rock all week :D xx
