a few of my favourite things

In the past few weeks I've bought quite a few new pieces of make up and skincare products, which is not like me at all. I usually stick to old favourites, but I've found some amazing new products which I can see becoming fast favourites of mine and wanted to share!

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner - £7.99 at Boots
After losing my (almost full, arghhh!) pot of Mac Fluidline after a few drinks one night, I decided that there was no way I could go back to using my old liquid eyeliner and took a quick trip into boots and picked up this new eyeliner - which as far as I could see was the only high street branded gel liner available in store.

I've been using it for over a week now, and to be honest I actually prefer it to Fluidline! It's a much creamier consistency, so it's a lot softer and easier to apply. It doesn't flake or smudge, and lasts the whole day. It even comes with a thin eyeliner brush which is almost as good as my trusty ELF Bamboo Flat Eyeliner Brush. I can see this lasting for ages, but I'll definitely be buying it again!

Revlon PhotoReady Foundation in 'Vanilla' - £12.99 at Boots
I've been using Estee Lauder Doublewear in 'Shell' for almost 2 years now, but I felt like a bit of a change as Doublewear is quite heavy and I suspect it was one of the reasons for my dry skin. I watched a Youtube video a while back (can't remember who posted it) where the girl mixed Doublewear with PhotoReady foundation and said it gave a perfect application, aswell as giving a nice shine to the face. Now, I was slightly worried when I looked at my hand after applying the foundation and saw hundreds of tiny specs of glitter, but it honestly does give a nice finish to the skin and doesn't make you look like Edward Cullen at all. I find that Doublewear is a little too matte at times, and a little bit of this foundation mixed in solves that.

I don't think I would wear PhotoReady on its own, simply because I prefer the feeling of a heavy coverage foundation, and also because it just doesn't have the staying power as Doublewear. But mixed together, they work really well.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara - £19 at Boots
I was given this little sample sized mascara and concealer duo when buying some Doublewear at the Estee Lauder Counter. I haven't used the concealer much because it's too dark for my skintone, but I really like the mascara. As expected from the Doublewear range, it has amazing staying power. It doesn't flake off your eyelids by the end of the day, and if you forget to remove your make up at night it will last right through until the morning. It also claims to lengthen your eyelashes, which it definitely does well. It doesn't clump either! I usually prefer my mascara to give a little bit more volume so I'm not sure if I'll buy this full price, but I'm definitely impressed with how long it lasts.

Garnier Skin Naturals Summer Body - £3.57 (half price) at Boots
This product was recommended to me by Kate at Gh0stparties and I love it SO much! I've got very pale skin and have been craving a subtle glow since the sun came out recently. I had tried fake tans before, but they all left me looking too tanned and more bronzed than the glowing look I wanted to achieve. This however, is perfect!

This moisturiser is easy to apply and smells lovely too. It does smell a little bit of that biscuity fake tan smell when developing, but you barely notice it. It leaves a natural sun kissed look and after using it for a week I haven't experienced any streaking yet. I've been applying it every 2 days to maintain a little bit of colour. I'll definitely be stocking up whilst it's on offer!

Fair Trade Foot Lotion - £8.35 at Lush
This foot lotion is one of my all time favourite Lush products. As well as giving you the silkiest feet you can ever imagine, it comes in an amazing pink colour and its peppermint and spearmint scent leaves you smelling of a big polo mint. Yum!

It might seem a bit expensive for a foot cream and you might be thinking that you could just use any old moisturiser on your feet but I really have noticed a difference since using this and a little goes a long way. It's quite oily, so I usually apply it before bed and pop on some socks. I once applied it before leaving the house wearing sandals and was sliding about all day!

What are your favourite products at the moment, are there any that you've tried and didn't get on with?

  1. wow, i am really tempted to go out and buy that lush foot lotion. i love lush so much. that pink is such an amazing color. the only problem is that not all countries carry the same products. sometimes you get lucky, and the names are just switched. hopefully they carry it in germany!

  4. Oh, the most useful part of the review for me has definitely been your review on the Maybelline gel liner. I'm in desperate need of a new liquid eyeliner, but I haven't a clue of which one to use! I was reluctant to buy mac before trying any cheaper brands, so I'm definitely going to give this one a go. Thanks, lovely!

  6. I've got Fluidline too but it's kind of drying up, will definitely be giving your one a go! I've had my eye on it for a while but wasn't sure if it was any good so thanks! I use that Garnier lotion too but in deep, 99% foolproof! Smells amazing too x

  7. Love the post :)
Will definitely be giving the Garnier summerbody stuff - I'm insanely pale as well and have been searching for a nice 'glow' product. Might give the foot cream a whirl after I finish the one I'm currently using as well, always on the look out for the next wonder cream to deal with my abused feet.

  13. I'm currently having this massive bout of trying different tanning lotions - thanks for letting me know that one is on offer, and our thoughts on it - I have yet to try it out!

And you really love the Fair Trade Foot Lotion? I did not get on with it and thought it made me feet worse if anything...

  17. I swear by summer body I go through it like water in the summer. I have noticed however that it tends to go streaky if you stop apllying it for a few days. I end up having to scrub it off because of the layers I build up not good!

  18. I've heard so many good things about the Maybelline gel eyeliner. I may have to invest in some! Plus I might give the Garnier Skin Naturals Summer Body a go as well seeing as I have very pale skin and feel like I need a bit of colour to look human. :)

  19. I'm super pale too and can never find a fake tan that looks vaguely natural on me, will have to try the Garnier one soon!
Ooh I'm glad that gel liner is really good, I was thinking of buying it. I've never tried MAC's Fluidline, but I wear black cat-eye liner pretty much every day so I think it's about time I tested out a gel eyeliner!

  20. the eyeliner is amazing, I bought it the other day too! I also love the foot cream, I need to go visit the spa for fish treatment first though. How is the revlon foundation on its own?

  22. I use to use garnier gradual tanner and loved it but then I moved on to the palmers cocoa butter one. If you do't like the smell of palmers it's an instant no but if you I think it's the best one there. Always gives me an excellent tan and I find it really moisturising too :) You should give that one a go next!

  24. I've bought the maybelline liner. Haven't had time to try it yet though. The glitter in the Revlon foundation sounds a bit scary but I do love their makeup...
